Try vacation auctions to save money on your next trip

Vacation auctions sites are one of the best ways to make very large savings on your vacation costs.

Saving on my vacation costs as you will have gathered by now is a top priority with me, bordering on the obsesive.

Bidding on the various vacation auctions sites has made me tremendous savings, For instance I have just booked a trip from the United Kingdom to The Canary Islands (Off the West coast of Africa) for a total sum of £46.00 ($82.00)

This is the only vacation that I have booked so far but I spend a lot of time looking at the travel sections on auction sites that I know that there is not a shortage of bargains to be found.

Once again it is case of filling aircraft seats and hotel rooms that would have otherwise been empty, producing revenue that would be lost forever.

The following are my favourite sites and by taking a look at each of them you will see the bargains that are on offer.

Before bidding on your first vacation auction check out the following tips.

Internet Auctions: A Guide for Buyers and Sellers

Like any internet payment transaction certain precautions have to be taken...Quite straightforward really.

1. Check out the seller before you bid. Some auction sites have feedback forums with comments about the sellers based on other people’s experiences. Be aware that positive reports may have been “planted” by the seller and negative comments could be from a competitor. Other sources of information are state or local consumer protection agencies and the Better Business Bureau. Negative information is a good warning sign, but a clean complaint record doesn’t guarantee that your transaction will go smoothly.

2. Check out prices before you bid and set yourself a limit...and stick to it!

3. Read the vacation auction sites terms and conditions, too many of us have gotten into the habit of just clicking the box without actually reading them.

4. Check the delivery costs before bidding.

5. Be especially cautious when dealing with sellers in other countries. If you have a problem, the physical distance, difference in legal systems, and other factors could make resolving it very difficult.

6. Save all transaction information. Print the seller's identification; the item description; and the time, date and price you bid on the item. Print and save every email you send and receive from the auction company or the seller.

7. Pay by credit card. Under federal law, you can dispute the charges if you paid the seller with a credit card and the goods were never delivered or if they were misrepresented. If you are paying through an intermediary service, ask what happens in the case of disputes.

These are just a few tips for you to follow and are by no means a full list of actions you can take.

The authors accept no responsibility for any problems the reader might have carrying out internet auctions.

Ebay..The grandaddy of them all.

Ebay now has more than 105 million members! They sell almost anything, there is a always a good selection of vaction auctions to choose from.

The U.K. alone had more than a million people join last year.

Over 430,000 people now make their sole source of income through Ebay.

"When Ebay started in 1995 nobody was even sure anybody would be prepared to buy something from a big established company" says Adam Cohen, author of The Perfect Store - Inside Ebay, a book about the company,s history.

A Synopsis of the book

eBay is one of the most successful commercial sites on the Internet. This is the story of eBay's humble beginnings, when it was launched from a spare bedroom in Pierre Omidyar's house, to its status today - with 20 million users. eBay started as a way to help Omidyar's fiancee trade with other collectors. It returned a profit in its first month and went on to change the face of business. This volume: reveals details of the company's rapid rise and the impact it has had on its users throughout the virtual marketplace; examines the range of customers, from the woman who wakes at 3 am to bid on a toaster, to the woman who had to rent a warehouse for her thriving business selling bubble-wrap; reveals why eBay has succeeded where so many dot-coms have failed; and provides information for those trying to understand how the Web is changing business, and for those trying to anticipate the next big thing.
